so weird. a snowboarding coin? canada is putting out a snowboarding coin. i feel like an old man, saying "i remember when snowboarding wasn't cool". it seemed like everyone hated us. especially the authorities. do they still ban snowboarding at whistler? or was it blackcomb? the snowboarders werent good enough or respectable to be allowed at the resort. now canada thinks that we're cool enough that they make a coin depicting snowboarding? i guess its all about hype. so bizarre.
please read the warning before you watch the video. i've been up late and for some reason this study on humans seems so very relevant/important to me right now.
Christmas... i cant help but think of that commercial... "Giving... thats the thing..." altho giving is very important to Christmas and among other things that are indeed important... it is NOT the most important thing about Christmas... you have to ask yourself: "why was Jesus born? and did we need Him at all? Why cant we just have santa?
please don't watch this if you are in a happy mood and want to stay that way... altho i feel like this is something that everyone in the world should watch. why? because this is normal. this is the average (majority of) human reaction. think about it, and think about it hard. humans amaze me. why? because we are capable of great things. both good and evil. are we inherently good? no. this is a choice that we can(and have to) make in every moment of our lives. this video is important to remind us of what we CAN do. don't kid yourselves. think about it hard, and then think about it some more.
so the other day i was concerned about aluminium in my diet and where i might be absorbing aluminium. i had heard something a while back about alziemers patients having aluminium deposits in their brains. so i looked up on wikipedia (the source of all knowledge) about aluminium and found that it is indeed a neurotoxin that alters the function of the blood-brain barrier. thats sounds pretty bad to me. i was wondering all this because i realized that one of our cooking pots is made of aluminum (both spellings appear to be correct). i was comforted by wikipedia that "The use of aluminium cookware, popular because of its corrosion resistance and good heat conduction, has not been shown to lead to aluminium toxicity in general." so i am hoping that they are right and will not throw out our nice pot. However i have decided that i will no longer use my precious old spice underarm deodorant/antiperspirant because apearantly it is made almost purely out of aluminum salts. i was interested to find out if my trusted (been using it about 15 years) deoderant had aluminum in it because wikipedia said this " Excessive consumption of antacids containing aluminium compounds and excessive use of aluminium-containing antiperspirants are more likely causes of toxicity." it turns out that nearly all deoderants/antiprespirants on the market are made with aluminum salt because they are very effective at managing smells and sweat. sweet (not). so i went straight to the store and bought some specifically "non- aluminum" pit stick. the adidas 24 hour seems to be working just fine. i dont really use alot of the stuff in the first place but i still wanted to err on the safe side. altho i havent bothered to check if "tums" or "rolaids" have aluminum in them (i think it might only be maalox and Amphojel). all these pre-cautions may just be me being silly because i also learned that aluminum is the most commonly found metal in nature (tho never in a pure state). they say that it makes up about 8% or the earths crust. so you would have to lock yourself indoors if you wanted to completely avoid aluminum all together. WP says "aluminium accumulation may be a consequence of the Alzheimer's damage, not the cause. In any event, if there is any toxicity of aluminium it must be via a very specific mechanism, since total human exposure to the element in the form of naturally occurring clay in soil and dust is enormously large over a lifetime."
now having learned all this i was reminded of silver. it occured to me that i had heard the very opposite things about silver. that silver kills germs and bacteria and warewolves and whatnots. i thought that this was odd because in my mind silver and aluminum are very similar, except for this; aluminum-bad, silver-good. so naturally i continued on wikipedia over to learn about silver. i thought it was cool that silver has the highest electrical conductivity of any element and the highest thermal conductivity of any metal. even higher than copper. and it was true that Silver is antimicrobial, and dilute solutions of silver nitrate and other silver compounds are used as disinfectants. "Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, wrote that silver had beneficial healing and anti-disease properties, and the Phoenicians used to store water, wine, and vinegar in silver bottles to prevent spoiling. In the early 1900s people would put silver dollars in milk bottles to prolong the milk's freshness. Silver compounds were used successfully to prevent infection in World War I before the advent of antibiotics". so these silly people descide that it might be a good idea to eat alot of silver "Today, various kinds of silver compounds, or devices to make solutions or colloids containing silver, are sold as remedies for a wide variety of diseases. Although most are harmless, some people using these home-made solutions use far too much and develop argyria over a period of months or years, and several cases have been documented in the last few years in the medical literature, including one possible case of coma associated with a high intake of silver (see medical references). It is strongly advised to notify a doctor when taking silver as a form of self-medication." i thought this was all hokey. i thought these silly people didnt really exist... until i got up this morning and heard about a real live PAPA smurf!
hey.. how's it going! Dec 6, '07 6:32 PM for users panthermartin and diana945cnt So, i guess the time has arrived for me to start using this account. I can hold back no longer! I took a look at your page and well, I liked what I saw.. ;p

well what can i say? i know that people here in elkford were praying for mike metz but now he has passed away. i heard that mike took it really hard that his friend tom james passed away from drinking (and whatever else) and driving. now mike has passed away after drinking and driving in his self proclaimed "death trap" of a truck (pretty much the same way as far as i know). and now... dave lowen might be gone too. well thats the rumor passed around the pub tonight at the show that was supposed to raise funds for mike metz's familly. appearantly dave was at the show and left drunk around quarter to 11. we were on our way home from music practice and saw all the fire trucks and ambulance and police cars just down the street as we were on our way to daves show, wondering what had happened. at the show we heard that dave lowen was dead. on our way home from the show we went passed the site that we had seen the car crashed into a tree (earlier) and saw that whoever had hit the tree had hit it pretty hard. the cops were gone so i got out and had a closer look. there was about 40 fresh pine cones at the base of the tree and a license plate (in the shape of the tree) and some car bits like a grill and a piece of a bumper at the bottom of the tree. it looked like someone (at the base of the rockhard hill) had blown passed the corner and ran off the road into the tree (looked like they tried to make the corner... its pretty slick tonight with ice, but not that slick) at a pretty good speed without even trying to slow down (no skid marks at all). i dont really know what to think. i just know that getting drunk and driving home is no way to grieve someone. so many people have died in elkford from drinking and driving and it doesn't seem to phase anyone in the right way. i am guilty of drinking and driving too so dont get me wrong like im some sort of holy soul on this subject but i just wonder how many people will have to die before the message gets to people.
welp, i descided to head out here to vancouver for a couple weeks. main intentions being getting my moto on the road and see if i can conquer this here disabilitating leg and some asphalt while im at it. it has been such a roller coaster ride of emotions. the first week there was no internet and no one around all day during the day. just kinda hanging around like a dirtbag sleeping on the couch waiting for motorcycle parts to come in the mail. once my parts came things got more interesting. they were quite the challenge to instal (being custom parts on a custom bike). once we (darren and i) got them on we went for a really great ride out to lions bay (on the way to squamish from vancouver). and then darrens bike broke down. once darrens bike was ready for the road we headed out to spences bridge and only made it as far as chilliwak. darrens belt on his bike blew out on the highway and my cane also went flying down the highway. my dang leg has gotten pretty sore from trying to kick start my bike. it is kick start only. well it was kickstart only, untill darren kicked the peddle right off my bike today and nearly broke his ankle. you see this is a glimpse of this trips topsy-turvy-ness. i am getting on such a high when im riding my motorcycle and then it either brakes down or is hard to start or darrens bike brakes down. and the concerts lately.... the weakerthans? the sadies? oh my! sooo much fun. its incredible. its incredible that i even got tickets. and the opening show for the sadies... "young rival" they were sooo good. crazy good. www.youngrival.com or www.myspace.com/youngrivalmusic check them out seriously. i am listening to their cd that i bought at the merch booth. and i have a shitty cold. and i gave it to darren and michael. boo-urns. i feel like shitty bill. "who is shitty bill?" he's that shitty guy, you know. all in all i have had some really great riding on my moto and had some really great times. smokin cigars and drinkin beers. kicking back and working on motorcycles. but my bike is broken down today, and that makes me feel broken down too, specially with this silly cold, and shitty leg, and i am broke. oh and i'm cold there are wolves after me. well not really that last part.
i am euphoric right now. i had such a great weekend. my cousin devin came to camp in elkford and we rode my canoe down the river twice (with another friend ryan). that was so much fun. we were like pioneers. it was pretty scarey what with my broken leg and ryan doesn't know how to swim. and then on sunday we went to koocanusa to bask in the sun. ahhh, it was so hot. after that we took off to lethbridge for jessica's and peter's birthdays. it was so good to hang out with all the peoples that came. AND! we ran into this guy from college that kristine and i hadn't seen in 8 years. whoo (kind of a sigh, type of whoo). and we had lunch, mmmm. yummy yummy lunch the next day. it was so nice to visit the days and the ruzeks. we felt special. and then... and thenn...
we saw a gul-danged cougar on the way home! woot woot! seriously, i have been wanting to see a wild cougar forever pretty much. it was so huge. its tail was really fat and he was sort of jogging across the highway right in front of us! he was about 50 feet away from us when we went by it (i dont know if it was a he or she). we stopped and the truck behind us stopped and we just sat there after it left into the trees and i said "ahhhhh" (kind of a sigh type of ahhhh)
we HAVE to hang in there together on this one. FACEBOOK... lame as it may be...cool as you may think (cognatively or not). it is a real threat to our group here on multiply. oh yeah facebook has a buttload of mad peeps on it... but does it have our close nit...umm... ness of multiply? no. did you catch that? i am making the descision for you. no, it does not. done. so, lets NOT say "ehwwwb, i only have time for faceboot today, errmmm, lets check multiply tomorrows, ok?". c'mon folks. we all know that multiply is the best email/blog/put-your-shiz-on-the- internizz... out there. so, stay focused and lets get our priorities straight here. lets not join the communal masses and hump a lemur (or lemming{i meant lemming, but lemur sounded better}) over the dry-hump mountain. ok goo-night.
today i go to the doctor for a routine check-up, but i want to tell you about how much fun my weekend was. kristine and i were asked to play some songs at a wedding in Vernon B.C about a month ago, so we have been practicing a whole lot. one song is an oldy. "how sweet it is" by james taylor (a bunch of singers have covered it). kristine sang and i played the drums. we had a guy play electric guitar and another guy play bass. the other song was one that kristine had written and it is really nice. the song kristine wrote is alittle more accoustic (well, accoustic guitar instead of electric, and i played with bamboo brushes instead of drumsticks). it went really well and we had alot of fun. i was alittle nervous that we were going to be playing in front of alot of people, but there was nothing to worry about, seeing-as we were not the main attraction. kristine sings at weddings alot. . . i thought that just driving straight to vernon and back would be dull and boring, so we took the long/fun way. starting out, we went and stayed the night in cranbrook with kristine's mum. we watched "hot fuzz" at the theatre that night and it was good fun. it was tuesday night, so we also watched "house" on tv. the next day we set out for Trail B.C to stay with our friend Lara for a couple days. we always have alot of fun when we visit lara. she cooked us an amazing roast and invited a buttload of people over to come eat it with us at her house. we also went over to her friends house to watch "Predator" with a bunch of people, and Arnold Schwarzenegger... was in it.
we headed up to vernon and i already told you about what we did there. after the wedding, we were invited to go stay at a friends house in Revelstoke. they also made us a delicious roast (and i had some at the wedding too, that makes 3 roasts you know). and we played a nintendo wii. that was fun. oh and i checked my email on the giant tv with the wii, that was neato.
leaving revelstoke we headed straight south to Ainsworth hotsprings. we had to take a ferry to get there and another different ferry after we left. the drive down there is super curvy and kristine had fun driving through the twisties. ainsworth is so cool. i had never been to it before. there are cool tunnels that you can swim through. we found out from some old fogies that the caves were old mining tunnels in the early 1900's. they are caked in calcium (or some mineral) with stalagtite stuff all over. yeah really cool.
we left for cranbrook and caught the ferry across towards creston and ate at the Sidar pub (the old bikers showed us a short cut to kitchener... skipping creston, wooo).
i am sorry that i didnt get much for pictures, but i did get some video, so i will post it when we get back to elkford.

yeah some dink face left turned right into me and kristine the other
day. he did it right as the light turned green and thought he could beat the traffic. there was no where for me to go. he came straight for us. i tried to ride it out but he hit us so hard i couldnt stear and
hit a pole, which ejected kristine and i onto the street. the dude
chopped my femur in half and chris ran after him and tore his door off
to make sure he wasn't planning on a hit and run. the ambulance came super
fast and scooped us up quickly (we were a block from the hospital). kristine is pretty much ok with a seperated shoulder and a couple other bumps. if the guy didnt hit my leg i would have been fine. after a night in the hospital they threw a rail down the inside of my femur and secured it with some pins. i spent a couple more days in there and then they said i could stay or go today so i split. we are going to stay at La Villa until i feel better and get all the legalities going. Darren had the bike shipped to trev deeley where he works and they are going to access it for damage . and i am going to get a lawer and milk that little puke for wrecking my leg and motorcycle. i might feel bad about doing that if he apolagized and maybe if he used his brakes. that would have been nice.
This weekend Kristine stepped on her belt buckle and pierced her foot... it was on the floor with her jeans on top, it cut through the jeans.. a friend of a friends mom got in a bad car accident. and Jessica choked! it sounds like i am describing a terrible weekend, but it was really awesome. Fantastic! it was really fun. it was Jessicas birthday and kristine n' I drove out to lethbridge to eat beef-dips at the backstreet and drink scooners with Ward and Jonny and Dolores too, oh and a few others. afterwards we lit off some fireworks at henderson park that i had brought along. wards arm got alittle burnt. then kristine and I got a room on the 9th floor of a hotel, with a really fast elevator. the next day we went to home depot and spent about 800 bucks on a new sink and toilet for the bathroom. we had a big diner at Jessica's parents house and a bunch of her (zany) family were there too. their back-yard is incredible. it is a japanese garden, with a pond, a gong, a tea house, and awesomeness. we had vietnemese rice vermacelli (witch is one of my favorite dishes in the world) and beer, and soup. later we had cake and watched the mizazaki version of heidi at Jonny's kick-ass bachelor pad. i love heidi and miyazaki. soo much fun. and then Jessica choked. it was bizarre, but it was nothing new to me... i have choked so many times in my life. it is not even funny. three of the times i have choked were life threatening. the first time i choked i ruined my swallowing muscles in my throat and that is why i choke so much. each choking story is pretty intense. Jessica had these cola candies that had really funny packaging, they taste really sour and sugary. the funny part was the packaging, they were called Super Cola! and had pictures on the back of the bag with the person saying "it's a wonderful candy" after they pop it in their mouth. heh. so Jessica was eating one and tryed to say "it is a wonderful candy". as she said that, the candy fell into her wind-pipe. ack, ack. she ran over to jonny and he started the heimliche (they do it different now and it is called "abdominal-thrusts). i think he tried two times and i got right in there and took over. i think it took about 6 or 7 more times and ... Eureka! that little clink sound the candy made when it hit the floor was like nothing i had ever heard... so satisfiing. unbelievable joy. i wasn't really worried at all, but what a relief it was to know that Jessica was going to be ok. what a weekend. sad and good, but not at the same time. i bought the movies "cowboy bebop", and "the dark crystal" i am going to go watch one of them now.
ok i have no idea how to post this as a recipe, so it shall be a blog.
have you ever bought pumkin seeds and hated how chewy they are? have you ever baked your pumpkin seeds after you carve a pumpkin? ok so here is a great idea... go buy some pumpkin seeds (avec shells), i buy the seasoned ones. buy whatever flavor you want. oil up a cookie sheet with olive oil, or pam, or peanut butter (i dont care what you use),use your greesy face for all i care. now if you bought the flavored ones you are ready to ram these seeds into a preheated oven (lets say 350°). now watch these little buggers closely, because they burn super quick. don't let them get dark brown, 3-4 minutes should do the trick. they are good. eat them and say "aaron is my favorite person on the planet!, i wish he was here so i could kiss him"
Kristine's new sleeping bag came in the mail yesturday. we got matching sleeping bags for our birthdays this may. they are pretty sweet; they stuff into really small sacs, rated to -5, and they zip together! yay! anyways... we are taking them to stone hill tomorrow (saturday), and then we shall roll over the rode to the sun (glacier national park) pass to waterton. maybe we'll even make a stop in lethbridge if its nice out.
every day here so far is pretty straight forward. i get up, relatives come over we have breakfast and sit around and talk of memories of Kristine's dad. usually around 2 or so i go downstairs and either do some work on my bike or go for a ride (actually todays ride was pretty fun; Kristines uncle is great friends with the mechanic at the harley shop, so we sat around and drank beer in the back of the shop today. how often do you get a chance to do that?). i have taken some great pics, but have no way to upload them unto the in-laws computer yet. so i suppose you'll have to wait a bit for them. so far i have added heat tape to the headers, taken the front fender and gauges off ( i think i am going to mount them on the side of the up-tubes tomorrow), i would have some more to do but i left my sawsall in elkford. we went home for the day to get some more clothes and whatnot, i thought this would be a great chance to do some work on the cars exhaust system. i have since decided that i am no good at working on a cars exhaust. any ways, in the evening they usually watch those shows that they all watch like survivor or without a trace or house or whatever the rest of them are, and i'll go downstairs and watch a movie. so far i have seen: "liar liar", "castle in the sky", "raising arizona", "fun with dick and jane" and i imagine i shall see a bunch more.
Kristine's dad passed away last night. during the day he went in to the hospital because he was feeling crummy. around 7 o'clock he had what appeared to be a stroke. he had leukemia and it was expected that he may die by bleeding in his brain, and that is what it was. i guess it was more of an aneurysm then. he was ready to go, he just wished he could stick around alittle longer. so here we are in cranbrook, and all his sisters are here too.
the other day i rode my motorcycle to cranbrook. it was really cold, but the excitement of being on the road was enough to keep me warm. i had fun. and i rode in the dark too. on saturday in cranbrook it was so warm... Kristine and i went on a nice ride and stopped by a river to eat candy on the river bed. well Kristine had skittles and i had a cigarillo. i saw something shiny in the water and Kristine thought it was garbage... so she had to pluck it out to prove me wrong. and it ended up being a cool rock with iron pyrite in it. i have a bunch i want to do to my bike before Kristines family reunion on easter weekend. take my gauges off... maybe a new headlight... some fork boots... fix my pipes... bob my rear fender... build a new seat pan... oh and move my ignition coil over to the side, i have to do that... and maybe raise my tank up a bit. busy week coming up.
yeah sorry, no photos of me riding in the snow... sheesh. that woulda been a good idea. but i'll take some photos next week if i get a chance. there is this really cool old church with snowymountains in the background that we passed... i need to snap one of that at least.
